Department of Physiology

Brief History

The Dept of Physiology was established in the year 2014. The Physiology Dept is involved in imparting training to undergraduate medical students. The Department boasts its state of art facilities including Hematology Lab, Clinical Physiology Lab, Experimental Physiology Lab, Mammalian Lab, Research Lab and well equipped Library with a total of 110 books, Charts.

Motto

Lead. Care. Inspire. In short, these are the three major goals of teaching. We believe in learning by doing and encourage the students to develop their practical and clinical skills in scientific study of normal mechanisms, and their interactions, which operate within a living system.

Students’ Training

In addition to traditional didactic lectures the Dept uses innovative learner centric small group teaching methodologies to impart training in the cognitive, psychomotor as well as affective domain to undergraduate MBBS students. The Dept of Physiology conducts teaching for students of MBBS 1st Prof. as per MCI norms. These teaching curriculum is distributed among interactive lectures, group discussions, practicals, tutorials and seminars & symposia as per MCI guidelines.

Integration

Practical knowledge in clinical practice will be acquired through integrated teaching with preclinical, paralinical & clinical departments and pre-clinical departments.

Infrastructure

  1. Professor and Head of the Department- (18 Sq.m.area);
  2. Associate Professor/Reader- (15 sq.m. area);
  3. Asst. Professor/Lecturers- Two rooms (12 sq.m. area)
  4. Tutors/ Demonstrators- Two rooms (15 Sq.m. area);
  5. Department office cum Clerical room one (12 Sq.m. area); and
  6. Working accommodation for non-teaching staff (12 Sq.m.) area

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

Quiz competition & students’ seminars which demand active participation by the students are being organized by the department. Students were given assignment related to physiology in form of poster presentation to assess their skills at a glance, under the guidance of Dr. Sushma Sood (Professor), Dr. Shweta (Associate Professor), Dr. Subarna Ghosh & Dr. Chandana Bera, Asst. Prof., Physiology.

MENTOR – MENTEE PROGRAMME

This programme has been started since 1st academic session as per the MCI guideline, under this programme Mentor acts as a role model & support system & establishes a psychological relation with the Mentee. The Mentor provides problem solving quality assurance & continuing education in the contest of an ongoing personal relationship to the Mentee.
